Urban cooperative modular housing street
Commissioned for Mark Larochelle’s Arktea, this artwork visualizes a progressive model for cooperative housing. The scene is explicitly designed to advocate for alternative forms of land use and communal ownership, demonstrating the immense social and structural strengths of organizing utilities and services at a neighborhood level.
While our hyper-individualistic society constantly pressures us to solve systemic challenges, such as housing on a purely individual scale, this artwork a collaborative alternative. The streetscape utilizes modular architectural frameworks to construct SolaRoof passive houses. Based on the pioneering work of designer Richard Nelson, these structures are highly adaptable, easy to assemble, and rely on natural, closed-loop solar technology for heating and food production.
