Geodesic domes

For the Spring 2024 edition of SciPhi Journal, I was commissioned to visualize a futuristic cover of Europe during a year when the SciPhi Journal crew  was touring major international sci-fi conventions, including Eurocon and Worldcon.

Taking a leap into the distant future is always a profound creative challenge, especially when the Sword of Damocles hangs so visibly over our present era.

With the escalating effects of climate change remaining the single greatest threat to our global stability, the central worldbuilding question for this cover became: "What if we end up on a planet where vast regions of our own home have transformed into entirely hostile environments?"

The artwork explores a provocative irony: will the enclosed geodesic domes, originally designed by visionaries like Buckminster Fuller to conquer outer space, instead become the survival architecture we are forced to build just to inhabit Earth?
