When rivers meander again
This environmental study explores a critical paradigm shift in modern hydrology: the transition from rigid, industrialized water management back to natural, self-regulating ecosystems. The concept was inspired by early 20th-century observations of untouched European waterways, most notably by figures like Viktor Schauberger, who, despite later controversial theories, was a brilliant early observer of natural river dynamics and a vocal advocate for preserving the organic geometry of water systems.
The artwork visualizes a "before-and-after" ecological intervention. It contrasts a typical Western European straightened river, where natural floodplains have been obliterated for intensive agriculture with a fully restored, meandering water artery. By removing concrete constraints and allowing the river to follow its natural, sinuous path, the landscape is transformed into a hyper-functional "water sponge."
As a species navigating climate instability, our primary spatial duty will shift from dominating landscapes to actively cultivating resilient bioregions that allow natural hydrological systems to self-regulate.
